From Mike Hudetz:
TRIKE BIVOUAC July 21-23, 2006 (weekend before the Monday Oshkosh starts)
For a second year in a row, we are hosting a trike fly-in/camp-over at Cushing Field. Cushing Field is located 175 miles SW of Oshkosh, 60 SW of Chicago and 1.5miles SW of Newark, IL on Illinois Rt.71 (0C8 on the Chicago Sectional) and is outside Chicago’s controlled airspace.
Last year, although the weather was marginal for part of the time, we were able to get in our Friendly Competition, BBQ, and night-time presentation by Mike Blythe (South-to-South Expedition). We had about 40 trikes, their pilots, families and friends in attendance and a great time, socializing and camping, was had by all- or at least most.
We're making it a 3 day meet this year to open up a little more time for Sport Pilot Check rides (7/21 & 7/23) and selling and trading trikes and trike related stuff.
We still plan on a friendly competition this year starting at 3PM on July 22, with sport landing, water-balloon drop and a new contest called "quick stop" where you'll be timed from touchdown to full stop.
A BBQ will be hosted by the Cushing Field Trikers 5PM till 9PM on July 22. We'll provide meat, buns and beer (donations encouraged) and hopefully everyone could bring a dish to pass (or chips or cookies, etc.). Immediately following the BBQ, Joe Duff, CEO from Operation Migration, is scheduled to give a presentation.
A short Breakfast Fly-Out will be possible Sunday morning to Prairie Lakes Country Club, about 10 miles south of Cushing.
There will be some hangar space available for visiting trikes on a first-come-first-served basis. There is unlimited tie-down and camping space, and a few washroom facilities on the airfield-no showers though. There are also a couple of hotels about 10 miles away.
