Interview with Marion Blakey
|
Marion Blakey, FAA Administrator, Sport Pilot News Conference
This is the actual audio from the press conference at the FAA headquarters in Washington, D.C. announcing the new Sport Pilot Regulations. The segment begins with an interview with Earl Lawrence and breaks away to the news conference as it happens live. Hear for yourself what was said about sport pilot by FAA Administrator Marion C. Blakey and her staff. (7/20/04)

| FAA Administrator Blakey in the Press Conference held July 20, 2004 at FAA Headquarters:
“If you came here this morning expecting good news," she said, "I can’t help you. However, if you want some great news, have I got a sound bite for you.”
“If you’ve always wanted to become a pilot or own an aircraft, but the cost and the time required were too much, today is your big day. Effective September 1, the FAA begins to certify sport pilots and their aircraft. Getting wings just got considerably less expensive with one stroke of the pen. And light sport aviation just got an infusion of safety.”
