Earl Lawrence, Experimental Aircraft Association
Earl Lawrence joins us to talk about the joys of flying GA instead of the airlines, especially now. He also does a regulatory review for 2009. A lot seems to have happened over the past year with an increase of pressures on those wanting to fly. Experimental Aircraft Association (12/29/09)

Troy Townsend, i-tec
This year i-tec received Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Award for its development of the Maverick, the flying car that really flies. Troy Townsend joins us to talk about the visit from Popular Mechanics to i-tec and why they chose to present the 2009 award for the Maverick. i-tec (12/29/09)

Jim Sweeney, SweeneyCorp
Say you've gotten a smart phone for Christmas. It makes phone calls, it takes pictures, but you still don't feel very smart because you know it does a lot more and you haven't figured it all out. Jim Sweeney joins us to talk about how the phone can be used to track more of what goes on in the world of aviation and free you from your computer. SweeneyCorp (12/29/09)

Mike Hudetz, A & M Airsports Ltd.
Wing tuning is a task unique to the world of hang gliders and trike pilots. Mike Hudetz joins us to talk about why a trike wing needs tuning and how you can go about doing it. A & M Airsports Ltd. (12/29/09)

Randy Hansen, Experimental Aircraft Association
We visit with Randy Hansen about visiting other countries and flying. Things are pretty straightforward if you have an ICAO recognized rating and your aircraft a standard airworthiness certificate. We talk about what you need to do to plan a flying trip overseas and what a guest needs to do when traveling to the USA with a desire to fly. Experimental Aircraft Association (12/29/09)

Earl Lawrence, Experimental Aircraft Association
For two weeks begining on January 4th, the federal government is going to be shutting down virtually all general aviation on an entire island. The temporary flight restriction (TFR) for the president's Hawaiian vacation will keep GA, sport, and ultralight traffic on the ground on the island of Oahu. Earl Lawrence talks about how this helps to illustrate just how large a 30 nautical mile ring is and how many people and businesses it can hurt. (And do you wonder if with Washington D.C. emptying out for the same two weeks whether the airspace restrictions there will be relaxed?) Experimental Aircraft Association (12/22/09)

Jim Sweeney, SweeneyCorp
With the shorter days and cooler temperatures, winter becomes a great time to sharpen up your navigation, maintenance, and other safety skills. Jim Sweeney talks about ways you can go out and visit with other aviators and learn more about what you do as a pilot. There are lots of old and new programs available and Jim talks about them all, to include the Illinois Ultralight and Light Plane Safety Seminar. SweeneyCorp (12/22/09)

Mike Stratman, California Power Systems, Inc.
UltraFlight Magazine just wrapped up a reader contest where stories about water ditchings were submitted to the Rock'n John column. Of course part of the aftermath of a water ditching is what to do with your engine after it gets submerged. Mike Stratman reviews what to do with your moistened engine. You can also get a look at an article Mike wrote here. California Power Systems, Inc. (12/22/09)

Dan Grunloh, Light Plane World
We talk with Dan Grunloh, the editor of the new EAA Light Plane World electronic newsletter. We also talk about changes with USUA, UltraFlight Magazine and UltraFlight Radio, projects Roy is working on. (12/22/09)

Earl Lawrence, Experimental Aircraft Association
When you build a home, you need to be aware that there are hazards with certain areas. Natural disasters like hurricanes are a possibility in the Gulf Coast, wildfires and mud slides can get your home in Southern California, rising water can wash away your home in a flood plain, and homes near an airport can have their values decimated by the FAA. Earl Lawrence talks about developments in the through the fence "rules" being developed by the FAA. Also, check out this video. Experimental Aircraft Association (12/15/09)

Jim Sweeney, SweeneyCorp
We talk pilot licenses with Jim Sweeney. There are small changes coming that mean big things to pilot certificate holders. We talk about what to look for on your license to see if it is up to date. There are people who have gotten certificates within the year, who still may not have them right and they may become invalid. SweeneyCorp (12/15/09)

Eric Tucker, Rotax Flying and Safety Club
There is some great news in the Rotax world. The time between overhauls (TBO) for Rotax 912 engines has been increased to 2,000 hours. We talk with Eric Tucker about why the number of hours was increased and how you can tell if your engine is one of those with the new TBO. Rotax Flying and Safety Club (12/15/09)

Greg Gremminger, Magni USA
A few weeks ago we talked with Greg Gremminger about the new ASTM standards that were accepted for gyroplanes, but we didn't have time to talk about how to measure the all-important stability in gyroplanes. The good news is that there is a safe way to test for gyroplane stability. Magni USA (12/15/09)

Earl Lawrence, Experimental Aircraft Association
A lot of fuss has been made about "through the fence" operations. Most of us think that just applies to airpark residences whose owners are looking to hanger their aircraft at their own home and then taxi to the airport runway. You know, the American pilot's dream. However, it also applies to people like powered parachute pilots, trike pilots, and others who may want to trailer their aircraft to an airport and get access to the runway for a flight. After all, you aren't based at the airport either and want to go "through the fence". We talk about why FAA and TSA bureaucrats want to end the practice. Experimental Aircraft Association (12/8/09)

Jeremy Monnett, Sonex Aircraft
Jeremy Monnett talks about a visit to the Sonex factory by the newly formed FAA New Kit Evaluation Team (NKET, or course). The team visited to practice the new procedures developed for evaluating new amateur built experimental airplane kits. Even though the kits were already on the accepted list, Sonex worked with the team to see how the current versions of the kits would fare. Sonex Aircraft (12/8/09)

Jim Sweeney, SweeneyCorp
Jim Sweeney continues to help you with ideas for the Christmas season. This time he reviews GPS receivers and talks about some of the features you might be interested in such as overlaid weather maps. Great overview of the products available with an emphasis on handheld devices. SweeneyCorp (12/8/09)

Carol Carpenter, Rainbow Aviation Services
This is the segment for the procrastinators among us. Less than 60 days from now is the deadline for everyone who got a registration card for their aircraft, but didn't yet get an airworthiness inspection. By January 31, 2010 you have to get your aircraft in shape for an inspection, get the exemption letter from the EAA, arrange for a DAR to look at your aircraft and get the airworthiness certificate. If you've been putting it off, you shouldn't be any longer. Rainbow Aviation Services (12/8/09)

Jeff Goin, FootFlyer.com
There are definitely downsides to having a spinning propeller spinning inches from hand and body, but that is the chance powered paraglider pilots take to enjoy their unique way of getting into the sky. Jeff Goin talks about the specific hazards and how to eliminate the risk of prop/body contact. FootFlyer.com (12/8/09)

Earl Lawrence, Experimental Aircraft Association
Earl Lawrence gives us an update on Zodiac 601XL/650 news. This time, Earl talks about what actual owners are concerned with. The EAA sought out the opinions and intentions of Zodiac owners in order to be able to represent their interests to the FAA. We talk about the results of that poll. If you are a Zodiac Owner, you can participate in the poll by clicking here. Experimental Aircraft Association (12/1/09)

Doug Maas, Six Chuter West
Doug Maas updates us on the powered parachuting activities out west including an update on Six Chuter West and the transition from the Yakima operation. Six Chuter West (12/1/09)

Jim Sweeney, SweeneyCorp
Jim Sweeney talks about the applications and services offered for Aviators on PDA's and Smart Phones. With Christmas coming, one of these services my be a hint you want to drop to someone. We include a review of Duat mobile, PIC Brief, Hilton Software, enflight.com, and ForeFlight. SweeneyCorp (12/1/09)

Ronnie Smith, South Mississippi Light Aircraft
We talk with Ronnie Smith about the common things people miss or ignore when doing services on two-stroke engines. For example, many people just ignore the oil injection system. We won't do that in this segment. South Mississippi Light Aircraft (12/1/09)

Tony Bishop, e-Go
Tony Bishop joins us to talk about the e-Go, a single-place canard airplane designed to meet the new de-regulated rules in the UK, LSA in the USA and ELA in Europe. Not only is it being designed to fit the new rules, it is being designed to use new manufacturing methods and materials. e-Go (12/1/09)
