You can listen to the only All-Sport Aviation Radio Show on the Internet
and...
Check Out The Schedule of Sport Aviation Events Below
|
UltraFlight Radio can now be found live on Tuesday mornings right here on the web at www.ultraflightradio.com at 10:00am Eastern Standard Time and 7:00am Pacific Time. But you don't have to hear it live to hear it.
You can also hear (previous shows) at the show archive. We make it convenient for you.
To be a part of the show and you are in the U.S., you can call toll-free: 1-866-613-1612. If you are somewhere that the toll-free number does not work, you can reach us at 1-858-268-3068. Another (often better) way to get questions to us is by E-mail. You can write Roy at roy@easyflight.com
Larry Clymer, FAA Light Sport Aviation Branch
Larry Clymer joins us to talk about the ultralight pilot to sport pilot January 31, 2007 transition deadline. There are lots of questions from listeners about what happens if people that were ultralight pilots on or before September 1, 2004 don't make that deadline. Of course the head of the sport pilot branch has the answers. Light Sport Aviation Branch
Bob Holloway, Guinness World Record Holder
Bob Holloway holds two Guinness World Records for distance traveled in a powered parachute. He talks about his flights and how he got them into the Guinness Record Book. AgBob.com
Bob Essell, Bob Essell Airshows
Bob Essell started flying general aviation airplanes many years ago, but then was bitten by the ultralight bug. Bob has done a lot of things with what we now call light sport aircraft, but one of the more interesting things is his father-daughter wingwalking act. Bob talks about the evolution of what is now a very unique act that has been seen around the world. Bob Essell Airshows
Bever Borne, Air-Tech, Inc.
Bever talks about a listener topic suggestion -- fiberglass fuel tanks. Bever builds a lot of fiberglass tanks and talks about their construction and the damage that can be caused by ethanol in the fuel. Bever can also answer your four stroke and two stroke ultralight aircraft engine questions. Do you have questions? When the show is live you can IM them in on Yahoo or AOL Instant Messenger to UFRadio. Roy@EasyFlight.com is the address you can use to E-mail those questions in. Air-Tech, Inc
Stuart Gort, Powerfin
It has been a long time since we've chatted with Stuart Gort from Powerfin. Since we last visited he has moved the Powerfin factory across the state of Washington to Spokane. We talk about the move, the propellers, and some of the interesting things going on at Powerfin. Powerfin
Ron Awad, PRA Chapter 13
The Rotors Over Carolina event is coming up soon. Ron Awad joins us to talk about the fun that the gyroplane community is looking forward to. Carolina Rotorcraft Club, Rotary Wing Forum
Remember, if you have any questions you want to ask the guests or you have any of your own comments about a topic, please call the show toll free when we're live at (866) 613-1612. If you have a show idea or know someone that would be a guest on the show (that could be you!) Contact Roy.
Hope you get a chance to listen in!

And if You Missed The September 26th Show...
You Can Still Get It In The Archives
|
We archive shows for four to six weeks. But for your convenience, you can access segments from last weeks show straight from this E-mail. Just click on the segment number.
If this is the first time you plan to listen to the radio show, you may need to download a copy of Windows Media Player. Don't fret, there are versions for the Mac, too.
Richard Meredith-Hardy, 1st Vice-President, FAI Microlight Commission
As the editor of the Microlight section of the FAI Sport Code, Richard Meredith-Hardy has one of the most thankless and critical jobs on the international scene of powered light sport aviation. The Sporting Code specifies how microlight records are set, how to attain microlight awards and how international microlight competitions should be held. The Sporting Code is going through its annual review and Richard explains how you can influence the document. FAI Sporting Code, Section 10 (PDF File), 2006 Proposed Changes to Section 10. (9/26/06)

Paul Hamilton, Adventure Productions
Paul is back from two great aviation events, the Reno Air Races and the Clear Lake Splash-In in Lakeport, California. He gives us a report on both events and we talk a little about the quality of the information being put out about Sport Pilot. Adventure Productions (9/26/06)

Phil Dietro, Inland Paraflite, Inc
When Sport Pilot was first introduced, one of the privileges that became available in the regulations was the opportunity for powered parachutes to fly over congested or urban areas. Phil Dietro took advantage of that privilege a short while back when he took off from the Torrance Airport in Southern California. He talks about the preparations that he made to do that kind of flight and what it felt like to be cruising above the Los Angeles cityscape in a powered parachute. Inland Paraflite, Inc (9/26/06)

Mike Stratman, California Power Systems, Inc.
Scheduled maintenance shows it’s time for your full engine inspection. While measuring piston wear and decarboning is pretty straight forward, how do you determine the condition of the crankshaft and how much more service life you can expect. Being the single most expensive item requires replacement, you need to be able to make an educated decision. Luckily Mike Stratman is here to tell you how to do just that. Mike can also answer your four stroke and two stroke ultralight aircraft engine questions. Do you have questions? When the show is live, call your questions in at (866) 613-1612 or you can IM them in on AOL or Yahoo Instant Messenger to UFRadio. Part #62 Proper Crankshaft Evaluation (9/26/06)

Jim Sweeney, USUA and NAPPF Board Member
Jim Sweeney talks about a couple of points that have been raised in the deadline conversation we had last week on Sport Pilot transitions. We mainly deal with myths of how you can extend your transition deadline and why they don't work. We also talk about the differences between a DPE check ride and a Sport Pilot proficiency check. SweeneyCorp, USUA, NAPPF (9/26/06)

Roy Beisswenger, Greenville Pilots Association
Roy talks about the AIRstravaganza fly-in event at the Greenville Airport in Greenville, Illinois. This is a great event that has everything from parachutes (powered and non-powered) all the way through warbird rides. The neat thing about this event is that the goal is to get spectators to stop spectating for a few minutes and get into the aircraft for a flight. AIRstravaganza (9/26/06)
