and...
Check Out The Schedule of Sport Aviation Events Below
|
UltraFlight Radio can now be found live on Tuesday mornings right here on the web at www.ultraflightradio.com at 10:00am Eastern Standard Time and 7:00am Pacific Time. But you don't have to hear it live to hear it.
You can also hear (previous shows) at the show archive. We make it convenient for you.
To be a part of the show and you are in the U.S., you can call toll-free: 1-866-613-1612. If you are somewhere that the toll-free number does not work, you can reach us at 1-858-268-3068. Another (often better) way to get questions to us is by E-mail. You can write Roy at roy@easyflight.com
Dale Hooper, United States Ultralight Association, Inc.
Dale Hooper joins to talk about the ongoing need for training that will be needed for ultralight pilots in the future. With many ultralight instructors either becoming certified flight instructors or retiring out of formal training, there is a predicted need for training for those that want to safely learn to fly ultralights. United States Ultralight Association
Scott Johnson, US Airborne Sport Aviation Center
A listener recently wrote in to talk about his quandary. He is a former glider pilot that is wanting to get back into sport flying. He is not sure about whether to get into Part 103 ultralights or into light sport aircraft. Scott Johnson, who is also experienced in both free air and powered flight talks about the advantages and disadvantages of the two forms of flight. He also talks a little about AirBorne's next big offering. AirBorne America
Jim Robinson, Erie Airpark
The Challenger Fly-In is a week earlier this year, and that is not all that's different this time around. Challenger is going to have its Special Light Sport Aircraft (S-LSA) on display at the gathering. Jim Robinson talks to us about the airplane and the place to be if you are a Challenger owner, dealer, or interested in a great time. Erie Airpark
Mike Stratman, California Power Systems, Inc.
Mike Stratman talks about fire protection for Special Light Sport Aircraft. In order to prevent in-air fires, aircraft need to be designed with fuel resistant hoses for fuel and oil lines. Depending on where a fuel or oil line is run, it will need some type of fire resistance. Mike talks about ASTM standards, aircraft design, and things you need to know if you are building an experimental amateur built aircraft. Mike can also answer your four stroke and two stroke ultralight aircraft engine questions. Do you have questions? When the show is live, call your questions in at (888) 514-2100 or you can IM them in on AOL or Yahoo Instant Messenger to UFRadio. California Power Systems, Inc.
Dana Hague, Connecticut Yankee PPG Boogie
Dana Hague joins us to talk about what has become a major powered paragliding event in the Northeast. Dana talks about the event, coastal flying, the food to be offered (Real New England clam bake anyone?) and why if you have any intention of ever going to this event, that you better go this year. Connecticut Yankee PPG Boogie
Ray Johnson, Fly/In Cruise/In
The 16th annual Fly/In Cruise/In is coming up soon. This is a great event for a great cause. And it is an event that features all kinds of personal transportation. If you are interested in aircraft, vintage cars, trucks, motorcycles, or tractors, this is the place for you. Ray Johnson tells us all about it. Fly/In Cruise/In
Remember, if you have any questions you want to ask the guests or you have any of your own comments about a topic, please call the show toll free when we're live at (888) 514-2100. If you have a show idea or know someone that would be a guest on the show (that could be you!) Contact Roy.
Hope you get a chance to listen in!

And if You Missed The August 22nd Show...
You Can Still Get It In The Archives
|
We archive shows for four to six weeks. But for your convenience, you can access segments from last weeks show straight from this E-mail. Just click on the segment number.
If this is the first time you plan to listen to the radio show, you may need to download a copy of Windows Media Player. Don't fret, there are versions for the Mac, too.
Paul Hamilton, Adventure Productions
Paul Hamilton joins us to talk about the 2007 editions of the Knowledge Test Prep books by ASA. We talk about the new edition of the FAA knowledge tests for trike and powered parachute certified flight instructors (CFIs). Those tests seem to have become more appropriate to their respective categories. We have a discussion about some ways to improve the tests even more. Adventure Productions (8/22/06)

Brian & Carol Carpenter, Rainbow Aviation Services
We missed out on the Carpenters' report on some good news last week so we try again this week. They just submitted the weight shift module for the Light Sport Aircraft Repairman Course to the FAA for acceptance. On top of that, they're in the process of putting the finishing touches on the module for powered parachutes. Both modules are scheduled to be offered at the end of October. Brian and Carol talk about these very unique courses and what's included in them. Rainbow Aviation (8/22/06)

Thomas Janetzke, EAA 2006 Gold Lindy Award Winner (Flex Wing)
Tom Janetzke made history at AirVenture this year. 2006 was the first time that a powered parachute has ever won a Gold Lindy Award, just about the highest award anyone can hope for at Oshkosh. Tom joins us to talk about the prize winning aircraft and the things he did to build it. Hughes Aero (8/22/06)

Ronnie Smith, South Mississippi Light Aircraft
Ronnie talks to us about the Rotax 912 series of engines. We answer a listener's question about the increased maintenance if you burn 100LL fuel. Ronnie also lets the cat out of the bag about the new engine case for the 912 series of engines and what the improvements accomplish. Ronnie can also answer your four stroke and two stroke ultralight aircraft engine questions. Do you have questions? When the show is live, call your questions in at (888) 514-2100 or you can IM them in on AOL or Yahoo Instant Messenger to UFRadio. South Mississippi Light Aircraft (8/22/06)

Jim Sweeney, USUA and NAPPF Board Member
Jim Sweeney tells us how to log training time towards a sport pilot rating. Basic Flight Instructors (BFIs) and Ultralight Flight Instructors (UFIs) can train pilots for Sport Pilot ratings. We have gotten some questions from both students and trainers on how to log that training time properly. You can get here what you can't get in FAA literature. SweeneyCorp, USUA, NAPPF (8/22/06)

Allan Tuttle, Stanley Sport Aviation's Fly-In
Allan Tuttle joins us from Nova Scotia to talk about one of Canada’s oldest Fly-In events, the 36th Annual Labor Day Weekend Fly-In. Featuring ultralights and sport aircraft, this looks like a great event. Allan talks about the history of the fly-in, what can be seen this year, and perhaps a little bit about the flying rules in Canada. Stanley Sport Aviation (8/22/06)
