To be a part of the show and you are in the U.S., you can call toll-free: 1-866-613-1612. If you are somewhere that the toll-free number does not work, you can reach us at 1-858-268-3068. Another (often better) way to get questions to us is by E-mail. You can write Roy at roy@easyflight.com

Larry Culver, FAA AFS-630
Tom Forchtner, FAA AFS-630
The Sport Pilot Knowledge Test, the computerized multiple choice test that pilots take as an important part of becoming Sport Pilots, has been changed. Where there once was one generic test, very soon there will be seven new tests that include questions from the different categories of aircraft such as weight shift control, airplane, and powered parachute. Larry Culver and Tom Forchtner are the FAA people that created the tests and they tell us about the process.

Mike Loehle, Loehle Aircraft
Mike Loehle created Loehle Aero Coatings for the experimental aircraft builder. But now a lot of other industries have become interested in the painting system. What was designed for the home builder is now being used by museums and military organizations to paint aircraft like an F-15 fighter, a TBM Avenger, and a Huey helicopter. If that isn't cool enough, learn how NASA is using Loehle Aero Coatings. Loehle Aircraft Corporation

Shawn Okun, Float Planes And Amphibs
Last week we learned about Alexis Peltier's tangle with the FAA in Key West, Florida. Alexis is the Kenyan delegate to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale's Microlight Commission. Shortly after his story was told here on UltraFlight Radio, he got the call he was waiting for to get the process moving forward. (Many thanks to somebody.) Shawn Okun catches us up with Alexis' trip and tells us about the changes in itinerary for the year. Float Planes & Amphibs

Mike Stratman, California Power Systems
Over the week a listener wrote in with a question about a 503 Rotax engine that just didn't look like the 503 Rotax engines he was used to seeing. The question was, was this even really a Rotax 503 or something else? Well, we passed the question over to our engine expert Mike Stratman and he tells us about the whole pedigree. Mike can also answer your four stroke and two stroke ultralight aircraft engine questions. Do you have questions? When the show is live, call your questions in at (888) 514-2100 or you can IM them in on Yahoo Instant Messenger to
UFRadio. California Power Systems

Jim Sweeney, USUA and NAPPF Board Member
Jim Sweeney has had the best record for getting people prepared to take the Sport Pilot Knowledge Test through his 3 day ground schools. He talks about the breaking news that those knowledge tests are changing and what that will mean to both the training world and to those preparing to take the test. SweeneyCorp, USUA, NAPPF.

Mike Lockling, 15th Annual Northwest Memorial Day Powered Parachute Fly-In
Mike Lockling joins us to talk about the 15th Annual Northwest Memorial Day Powered Parachute Fly-In. This is probably the longest continuously run event in the world of powered parachuting, also known as the Six Chuter Memorial Day Fly-In. The event is being hosted in Oregon this year and Mike talks about other changes for the event. Six Chuter Events

Remember, if you have any questions you want to ask the guests or you have any of your own comments about a topic, please call the show toll free when we're live at (888) 514-2100. If you have a show idea or know someone that would be a guest on the show (that could be you!) Contact Roy.

Hope you get a chance to listen in!

And if You Missed The May 9th Show...

You Can Still Get It In The Archives

We archive shows for four to six weeks. But for your convenience, you can access segments from last weeks show straight from this E-mail. Get Windows Media PlayerJust click on the segment number.

If this is the first time you plan to listen to the radio show, you may need to download a copy of Windows Media Player. Don't fret, there are versions for the Mac, too.

Dale Hooper, United States Ultralight Association
Dale Hooper joins us to give us the latest from the USUA. A committee has been formed specifically to address concerns from USUA clubs. Clubs have specific needs like insurance and airport access that need work. Also, USUA has just announced a BFI Program Rate Change. BFI fees are now priced at $75 per year. BFI ratings are still valuable to both the instructors and the flying community, but now this makes them a value, too. United States Ultralight Association (5/9/06)

Lee Parker
Lee Parker tells the unfolding story of Alexis Peltier's tangle with the FAA in Key West, Florida. Alexis is the Kenyan delegate to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale's Microlight Commission. He's attempting to fly from Chile to Kenya on a flight that is meant to draw the public's attention to migrating birds. Instead, it seems to have drawn the attention of every enforcement agency in the United States. Grounded in Florida and with a limited window of time to complete the journey, we're trying find someone in the US that can help Alexis to get on his way.
