Check Out The Schedule of Ultralight and Light Sport Aviation Events Below

UltraFlight Radio can now be found live on Tuesday UltraFlight Radiomornings right here on the web at www.ultraflightradio.com at 10:00am Eastern Standard Time and 7:00am Pacific Time. But you don't have to hear it live to hear it.

You can also hear (previous shows) at the show archive. We make it convenient for you.

To be a part of the show and you are in the U.S., you can call toll-free: 1-866-613-1612. If you are somewhere that the toll-free number does not work, you can reach us at 1-858-268-3068. Another (often better) way to get questions to us is by E-mail. You can write Roy at roy@easyflight.com

Larry Clymer, Federal Aviation Administration Sport Pilot Branch
We visit with Larry Clymer about how sport pilots can get training from Ultralight Instructors. Yes, the BFIs and UFIs from the Ultralight organizations can provide the required aeronautical experience for students wanting to become sport pilots. We get the right details for both the students and for the instructors wanting to provide that training. Also, the next DPE course has been filled with applicants. We learn what is going on there. FAA Sport Pilot Branch

Shawn Okun, Float Planes And Amphibs
Shawn Okun talks about the A-20 Vista and the A-22 Valor aircraft. These are airplanes that FPnA has been working on getting Special Light Sport Aircraft Status for. Of course Shawn gives us the details about both the planes and the certification progress. FPNA

Jeff Gilkey, Weight Shift Control (Trike) Pilot
Jeff Gilkey is a weight shift control pilot that has taken the lead in his area to get other pilots squared away as sport pilots and their aircraft certified as light sport aircraft. By bringing in outside instructors to provide the training, testing, and airworthiness inspections he has helped many disciplines of sport pilots in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area while he has helped his own situation. His methods are easy to duplicate for those wanting to get things done in their own regions and Jeff tells how to do it.

Bever Borne, Air-Tech, Inc.
Last time Bever Borne was on the show, he talked about how to get an electric starter hooked up. This time, he talks about how to use the charging system to put electrical power back into the battery and other devices you may want to power. Bever can also answer your four stroke and two stroke ultralight aircraft engine questions. Do you have questions? When the show is live, call your questions in at (888) 613-1612 or you can IM them in on Yahoo Instant Messenger to
UFRadio. Air-Tech, Inc.

Jim Sweeney, USUA and NAPPF Board Member
Jim Sweeney visits with us about logging time for student pilots. Who can log what for who and when and how long they can do it. This is important information for those getting started out in the sport and (again) for instructors that want to do it right. SweeneyCorp, USUA, NAPPF.

E.D. Yoes, EAA SW Regional Fly-In
Dick Yoes visits with us about the EAA Southwest Regional Fly-In in Hondo, Texas. As you can imagine, there will be a lot to do there in south Texas. Dick tells us about the forums, the flying, the food, the air shows, and a chance to listen to Astronaut Mike Melvill speak. SW Regional Fly-In

Remember, if you have any questions you want to ask the guests or you have any of your own comments about a topic, please call the show toll free when we're live at (888) 514-2100. If you have a show idea or know someone that would be a guest on the show (that could be you!) Contact Roy.

Hope you get a chance to listen in!

And if You Missed The April 25th Show...

You Can Still Get It In The Archives

We archive shows for four to six weeks. But for your convenience, you can access segments from last weeks show straight from this E-mail. Get Windows Media PlayerJust click on the segment number.

If this is the first time you plan to listen to the radio show, you may need to download a copy of Windows Media Player. Don't fret, there are versions for the Mac, too.

Eulalie Langford
Eulalie Langford is the former state representative from Idaho that helped take up the cause of a rancher that wanted to use his powered parachute for predator control. It turned out that the effort took more than passing a state law to allow aerial hunting. Environmentalists turned in the "aerial gunner" to the FAA, who initially shut down the practice despite the state law. Now there is an agreement worked out that involves (of all things) the new Sport Pilot regulations. Listen in for a great story. (4/25/06)

Vernon Peckham, Airshow Commentator
Last time we had Vernon Peckham on the show, we barely had time to get started talking to him. This time we take a little more time as he gives some tips to those that want to follow in his footsteps and begin commentating at local fly-ins and airshows. It is the type of activity that adds so much to an event, but requires more than a big speaker and microphone (although that helps a lot, too.) airshotalk@cfl.rr.com

Mike Stratman, California Power Systems
Mike Stratman is back from Sun 'n Fun and has some insights on the show. He spent (as usual) a week on the GA side of the event, but also got a chance to visit with other vendors. He talks about the show from a business point of view. Mike can also answer your four stroke and two stroke ultralight aircraft engine questions. Do you have questions? When the show is live, call your questions in at (888) 613-1612 or you can IM them in on Yahoo Instant Messenger to

Jim Sweeney, USUA and NAPPF Board Member
Jim talks with us about how to approach non-towered airports. Since sport aviators may fly a little lower than other pilots; answers to questions about how to go around an airport, or enter the pattern, or just fly over the top of an airport are sometimes a little bit different than for other pilots. And of course some of it is the same. Jim sorts it all out for us. To follow along, you may want to visit: Getting Around the Traffic Pattern. SweeneyCorp, USUA, NAPPF. (Part 1) (4/25/06)
